Laser for glaucoma
Iridotomy yag laser is done in acute and narrow angle glaucoma. It is a laser treatment used to create an opening in the iris (the colored part of the eye) to open the corner and allow the fluid to pass; both eyes may need treatment because this type of glaucoma may develop in both eyes.
Lasertrabeculoplasty is done in open-angle glaucoma. It is a laser treatment in the corner of the front chamber on the trabecular of the eye. Anesthetic drops are instilled and a special lens is applied to the eye. The laser creates small openings in the trabeculum. This allows a greater amount of fluid to be drained and reduces intraocular pressure.
